Government in perspective sociality - lee ye won (이예원)

Intro

This week, I learned the socialism and government. It was interesting the bureaucracy in government part. I mean it was interesting thing that our life part. I felt that the courses in the government part were a lot of things. I thought that the bureaucracy is the important part in the government.

 

Socialism 
 

Socialism is social ownership of the means of production replacement of profit motivation by the needs of the society. It seems planned economy. It was interesting that the word communist is not used in political. It seems that some countries are described political system. But it is not communist. Communist is based in equal. No money, no classes, no market and states… it looks like paradise systems. But it has a lot of problems. One is economically inefficient and two is utopian system. Cause utopian system is not realizing in reality.

 

Bureaucracy

I think that bureaucracy is the most important part in government. (I mean it is interesting.) Bureaucracy is a group of non – elected officials within a government of other institution that implements the rules, laws, ideas and functions of their institution. It is efficient vehicles for governing by administration and incentives. It has six characteristics.

 

1.     Hierarchical organization.

2.     Specialized division of labor.

3.     Written rules of conduct.

4.     Bureaucratic officials need expert training through education.

5.     Impersonality

6.     Promotion based on achievement

 

There are very simple and useful but have problems. There are tree problems.

3.     Parkinson’s law

Democracy

There are many definitions of democracy. This is system in which all eligible citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. I think that we think democracy is liberal, representative democracy. Liberalism is simple ideas such as civil rights, freedom of the press, and private property and so on. It was interesting that John Markoff in waves of Democracy. In the part, elimination of wealth requirement for voting(19^th century) and gender requirement(late 19^th/early 20^th century). Is it interesting that the gender requirement?

 

Discussion

Is modern democracy really “the will of the people”?

Our team thought this question is yes. Our country in south Korea had autocracy age about 30 years. But in this time our country is not autocracy state. Cause people tried to stop autocracy by protesting. If people don’t do this, our country could be bed country. I mean the position in country is worse and worse. So the democracy is made by the will of the people.
