Korea is Patriarchal society in past. Korea was influenced Confucianism. So Korean thought family is very important and thorough class stratification society. 
Korean family features is many thing. First, all of family live in home. General family member is grandfather,grandmother, mother, father, and child. Woman worked in home. And man worked outside. Family want son. Because of continue droughty. It is Male-centered ideology. 
Advantage of past family divided the mind. It don't feel now.
But there are also disadvantage. The serious disadvantage is Machismo. Head of family always man. That is unchanged fact at the time. Woman was discriminated by society. Woman undergo many rule and discrimination. 
Past Family have both advantage and disadvantage. We receive advantage feature of modern family and past family.
