Lookism and Plastic surgery of Korea
Because of the Confucian thought of past Korean society, plastic surgery has been received criticism. In the past, Koreans thought that transformation the body that parents gave is undutifulness. On the other hand, today Korea become economically prosperous, so it could afford to be able to enjoy the freedom. Recently, many women(or men) have a plastic surgery, which is testimony to economic affluence Korean society. Also, in Korea society that emphasis on looks, a lot of people try to appeal to own`s appearance. However, excessive competition or lookism is socially problem. For example, corporation personnels have considered that appearance is an important factor in hiring employees, the rest does not look good. Also, discrimination of appearance become more increased, women who do not sandwiched between the any group had been alienated. So, although plastic surgery is painful, some women transform face by using all means. The irony is that plastic surgery does not fit with the sentiment of Koreans. I thought that generation gaps of older generation with the past Confucian thought and new generation. Therefore, These lookism or plastic surgery may lose the unique personality of the Korean and may lead to negative social problems.(ex. plastic surgery syndrome, side effects and depression etc...)
