1. should korean government do more to reduce poverty and promote equality?

 

I think government do more to reduce poverty and promote equaility

korea society is very polarized

People with a lot of wealth try to make more money

but poor people are not possible savings because they difficult to live

Also, The state support money for poor people , the effect is minimal

so, the state should execute an active policy for the poor

support fund for poor people, free meals, offer a job and so on..

the state should try to reduce the polarization.

the intermediate layer is greater form the balance

therefore, the state should helps the poor people and the upper class should lead to equality supporting poor people

2. what is the function of stratification

I believe function theory. stratification gives stability

Because stratification is divided, people act Action fits in the stratification

stratification do not confuse the community

Also, stratification make order

Through the order, people create balance and harmony

Without order in society, society are downfall

therefore, stratification roles staility and make order

INTRODUCTION



 In this weeks lecture  we focused on stratification. stratification got many meanings but in socialogy, it means division. Dividing society by wealth or social status.we can see  stratification  in every society. Even in nations where they follow communism as a national political belief. This is inevitable in every society. There are good effects and bad effects in stratification. The good thing stratification causes is it makes society efficient. Because they divide people to work different jobs based on their reproductive ability. Labor can be more businesslike. The bad thing that stratification makes is that it  discriminats people.There is a very important thing in discrimination. I think discrimination is justified if they are based on one's effort and ability. Not by one person's gender or region or race or social status(wealth) . For example apatheid or sexism. People must have same opportunity to compete with each other.


What is the function of stratification?

Stratification divides people by some criteria.   Society divides people by ability society  constructs efficient social system which increases production much better.Because people can do what they are really good at.  This makes world better place. Everyone can live a better life.  But it is difficult for society to divide people. There are many unexpectable aspects in social segregation. If it segregates unjustly, the society will corrupt because it causes unequality which most of people can't satisfy. Even There is malfunctioning of stratification, The stratification is really important for society to maintain their efficient conditions in labor.

Of course every nation have to work hard to reduce poverty and promote equality in society. It is hard to say that korean government is not sufficiently working to reduce poverty and to promote equality. Of course , it is better than past decades, but we all know that there are people suffering from poverty and there are people who are discriminated because of their inborn situations. Government have to work endlessly to remove this unjust situations.

Should korean government do more to reduce poverty and promote equality?

 

China has large number of wealthy but poor too. And this gap is very big. It is accepted as a super serious problem that disturb development of China. If we do not want to become like China, Korean government should do to reduce poverty and promote equality. But If the gap between the rich and the beggar became vague, So if wealth of all people bacome same, this can be problem. Competition will disappear. Because most of human has a tendency to compare himself with other people. Ideal situation should become only in the imagination. So I think that Korean government should do to reduce poverty. But should do not promote equality.

 

What is the function of stratification?

 

Stratification exists where most of our life. For example, in army, stratification is very important. Soldiers must follow general`s commend. If this structure not to exist, army will not move properly because of distraction. The society versa. Role of Stratification in society is social stabilization.

 This week, in the class 'Invitation to Sociology' we learned about Social Stratification. Social Stratification means 'group of people that can be categorized in society'. So in the view of sociology, this should be discussed in variety of situation.

1.Should Korean government do more to reduce poverty andIn promote equality?
 Korean government should take more action to reduce poverty and inequality. To reduce poverty is necessary but to get rid of poverty and inequality in society is not so good. Because if poverty in relativeness and inequality disappears, then people's effort to be in better situation also will disappear. So there won't be improvement and development in society. Not only about economic development but also many part just like cultural development will be stop.
 So the thing that really needed is social effort to reduce poverty and inequality. Not removing all of these.


2.What is the function of stratification? 
 The function of social stratification can be viewed by two perspectives. Positive one and the negative one.
 In positive perspective, social stratification can make society in order. And also social stratification makes society more improved. Because people in society usually try to be upper class.
 But in negative view, social stratification is tool of controling people in society. People try to be upper class. But Being upper class is hard. And the upper class try to maintain their class. So the upper class use their class to control lower class.

Racial and ethnic stratification

First, ethnicity is a socially defined category of people who identify with each other based on common ancestral, social, cultural or national experience. And race is category which classify human being according to region and physical features. Nationalism is a belief that involves an individual identifying with, or becoming attached to, one's nation. For nationalism there is two category. One is civic nationalism which is also known as liberal nationalism. Civic nationalism defines the nation as an association of people who identify themselves as belonging to the nation. And the other one is ethnic nationalism which bases membership of the nation o descent of heredity. And in ethnic stratification, there are prejudice, discrimination, and institutionalized discrimination. First, prejudices are belief about the undesirable qualities of others. Discrimination is the differential treatment of others. And institutionalized discrimination is official discrimination encoded in law. 

We discussed about prejudices we have. There are many examples of prejudice. First, we commonly think Asian are introverted but Western are extroverted. Also Korean think most of rich people have earned their money from disagreeable way. And women and Asians are not good at driving. Also people think products made in China will be easy to break. Furthermore there is prejudice which we learn in the lecture pink is girls' favorite color and blue is boys' favorite color.

  In this week, our class learned about 'Stratification'. 'Stratification' means the division of something, especially society, into different classes or layers. I could know the function of stratification comprises very important part in our society. Also, I had thought 'Stratification' and 'inequality' are only harmful and bad things in our society, but I could realize that "Sometimes, Stratification and inequality are useful, effective, and essential." This fact was remarkable to me. Therefore, our class talked about many questions which are related with 'Stratification'. I will choose two questions and write the answers.

people work hard in social competition to avoid poverty.

  I think Korean government shouldn't do more to reduce poverty and promote equality. If our society is equality and there are no poverty, there is no competition. Competition can help our society to be active and productive, so competition have to exist in our society. In this respect, too much effort that reduce poverty and promote equality must be avoided to maintain helpful competition. Thererfore, we can mention that  Korean government already do very well to reduce poverty and promote equlity. Because I think there are adequate policy that reduce poverty and promote equality in Korea, also there are adequate competition in Korea.

  I think the function of stratification is 'maintaining social stability'. The more our society is developed, the more complex our society is. In this situation, stratification can control complexity of our society. For example, the roles of rich are very different from the roles of poor. Therefore, there must be standard that can divide between rich and poor. Stratification can be the standard. Likewise, Stratification can be standards in many part of our society(ex. gender, ethnicity, culture, etc...) except economy. As a result, the function of stratification is very important in our society, and it is valuable and absolute necessity.

people who are in low import or the humble classes do their endeavor for overcom
e their class with earn more money, study hard and so on. The effort of humble classes might develop the technology, science, economy and so on. It couldn't be the only profit of vested people, but whole nation's profit.

-about the minimum wage

This picture is from albamon's advertisement of the Korean minimum wage. Korea government set the minimum wage to 5,580won. I can't agree with this minimum wage. The market theory, economics' basic assumption, tells it doesn't need. Because, supply and demand make the price and quantity. It is applied at labor market. The formation of wage is natural with market theory. So it is unnecessary.
