 This week, I learned about "Socialization and social control & Social interaction". Socialization is a kind of expectation. It is encourages people to participate in society. Society exists because of socialization. I think that socialization is needed to live with many people. But socialization also can be prejudice. For example, as the professor questioned to us, "color pink is associated with girls, why?" This question is about socialization. The parents have socialized stereotype for color and they pressure their cild. I think these phenomona is incorrect.

 

 

Topic1 : Can we think of other ways the society tells us how different things are expected from boys and girls?

 

 

 Korea was influenced by the Confucial culture. So, there are so many different expectation for boys and girls. From old times, Korean people often say a man should cry only three times in his life : when he is born, when his parents die and when he loses his country. As appers by this sentence, elders rebuke a boy or man when he cry since childhood.

 Like this, elders pressure feminineness to girl and lady. These saying, attitudes, traditions and custom denigrate manhood of women. Women were forced to carefulness of conduct. For example, girl was told playing with dolls than playing with balls.

 

Topic2 : What's the meaning of  ?

 

 Yellow ribbons and hand-written messages at a memorial for the victims of the sinking of the ferry Sewol.

 The "yellow ribbon" campaign gives console to the families of the students and other victims. This campaign was started voluntarily by citizens. The yellow ribbons have the meaning of coming alive.
 And in this case, this is dedicted to the memory of the deceased. This tragedy never happen again.
 We need to keep this disaster in mind and to learn proper safety measures in dangerous situation.

Color pink is associated with girls, why?

 

 I thought by myself why the color pink is associated with girls today, but I couldn’t think of an answer myself. So I decided to do a research on Google. http://www.livescience.com/22037-pink-girls-blue-boys.html Here I found out that there are some theories answering my question in a sociological aspect, but there were none in a biological aspect. It is because it seemed obvious to the researchers that there couldn’t be an evolution leading girls to like the color pink and boys to like the color blue. I agree with this thought. It is because I think the meaning a color has now is just given by human and the meaning human give to certain object changes all the times and places. (Ex; the crow is a bad sign in Korea, but at the same time it is good news for Japan) So the question why the color pink is associated with girls can be answered by a sociological aspect. At the article, the author explained that the marketers made girls=pink boys=blue strategy because this way people will buy the product and feel that their child is girlish or boyish.

We live in society. And in the society, we are participated in social cohesion and social integration by socialization and social control. Socialization and social control make us member of society. Last class we learn about them. And we discussed about several questions.

 

 

Q Color pink is associated with girls. why?

 

We thought that is associated with girl’s characteristic. Generally, girls are more sensitive than boys and color pink has more warm image than other colors. So many girls have a good feeling to color pink and pink is associated with girls.

I became curious about this topic and searched about it. In the beginning of 20th century, color pink is associated with boys. Boys wore pink or red clothes and girls wore blue clothes. Because pink has active and dynamic image so it is more associated with boys. And blue has elegant and delicate image so it is more associated with girls. As time goes on, It is changed. There are some hypotheses. Pink is symbol of a homosexual and its image has become weak and delicate. And other hypothesis is that color preference changed naturally.

Any hypothesis, I think current color relation is derived from social convention. Parents dressed their children in pink for girls and blue for boys. Clothes, accessories and toys for girl colored pink. And character for girls, for example, Hello Kitty and princess wore pink clothes and accessories. Boys also tend like this in blue instead of pink. As their children grew, they learned that naturally. And they also repeated the same thing to their children. So color pink is associate with girls.

 

 

This topic was very interesting. In modern society, color relation is weaken than the past. But still, sometimes, people look boys wearing pink clothes or accessories strangely. In the future, that is more and more weaken. If so, other color will be associated with girls and boys or may be they are gone.

Looking around, the color of the female children's toys is almost pink.

Not only toys, clothes, shoes, school supplies also, pink is seen well.

So many women things color is pink, because women prefer the pink.

 

Then, Why prefer women the color ‘Pink’?

I previously, there is the color of the inner wall of the women uterus I saw interesting articles that pink. In the article, why people feel the psychological sense of security to see the pink was to be associated with the color of the uterus inner wall. I thought women wanted a lot more peace of mind than men. So, I think that women prefer pink gives peace of mind than men.

 

Of course, there is the psychological reasons, as well as social reasons.

Have you ever been to the infant shop? There are ‘divided.’ : Clothes for boys and sky blue, pink clothes for girls (Girls get most of the pink socks, pink shoes, pink clothes.) They receive a small gift from a young age, and they are working on socialization.

We learned about social cohesion, social integration, socialization. Social cohesion means the bonds that bring people together in a given society. Socialization exerts influence on society. That is, Without socialization, society would not exist. Also, we are socialized through interaction, groups, gender role.

I think that the reason why color pink is associated with girls is because we have bias. People think that color pink is associated with girls. On the contrary to this, color blue is associated with boys. We regard color pink as sensitive and warm image. When we think pink, we feel that pink is soft and lovely. Actually it is prejudice. According to person, people feel differently. Therefore, color pink is bias that we socialize.

At present, fixed gender role decreases. But still gender role remains.

People consider boys as strong, active. Boys play with car toy, robot toy.

Boy's toy is masculine. On the other hand, we consider girls as sensitive, passive. Also, we think that women are dependent, sentimental and emotional. So Girls play with dolls. Of course, boy can like dolls and girls can like car toy. But we think that it is strange. Because we have stereotype about boys and girls.

Today I am going to post two topic. First topic is "color pink is associated whith girls, why". Second topic is "Can we think of other ways the society tells us how different things are expected from boys and girl?". Both topics are related to gender.

 

 

Color pink is associated with girls, why?

 

Toys for girls that Barbie is doll for girls are pink. And the majority of girl`s room wallpaper is pink. In addition, Stuffs that is related with girls are almost pink. So I think that pink is associated with girls because from an early age, they have grown around the pink color. On the other hand, boy`s color is blue. Toys for boys are blue. And boy`s room wallpaper is blue. If some boys love pink, his friends will consider strangely and vice versa.

 

 

Can we think of other ways the society tells us how different things are expected from boys and girl?

thinking of boy and girl is very different. So in everyday life, lover or friend has many conflicts because of minor words. The difference between the men and women of thought appeared in stereotypes. Boys should do not cry. They are expected to brave, energetic and dignified. Girls are expected to pure, week and submissive. But these are standards that set by people from the past until today. this is a kind of gender discrimination. When I was high school student, while study, I read some contents that is related with this topic in the English fingerprint. Boy`s parents think child`s success thanks to the ability of the child. On the other hand, girl`s parents think child`s success thanks to the effort of the child.
