First we had discussion about marriage. The
topic was “Why the majority of South Korea’s men marry with person who is from
other country?” Our team thought it is because of gender imbalance. In South
Korea, there are much more men than women. So man who has not found their
partner find their partner from other country.

After we finish discussion we
learned about dating. Dating is the process of meeting people socially for
possible mate selection. There are reasons we date. First it is because
manifest functions of date. Adolescent has reached puberty so they date because
of recreation, companionship, love and affection, and mate selection. The other
cause is its latent functions. In latent functions, they see date as 3 functions.
First is socialization which is learning about gender roles and family
structures. Second function is gaining social status. Dating can enhance
prestige fulfilling ego needs by being asked out or accepted opportunities for
sexual experimentation and intimacy. And last is seeing date as a big business
just like economic market for products and services. Nowadays people are
choosing to marry more later. According to this phenomenon, cohabitation began
to rise. Cohabitation is a living arrangement in which two unrelated people who
are not married live together and usually have a sexual relationship. Also
divorce is much more common and accepted than in the past.
