Social Movement


The public and the civil society movement in order to change or improve the existing social structures and institutions that voluntarily participated, organized and collective, meaning a continuous variety of action. Social movement is sometimes considered different concept with civil movement, civil rights movement. But now it include both.
 Social movements in the early 20th century Western context is meant the socialist movement of the working class to seek a fundamental transformation of society. Korean context of social movement is arisen by intellect with civil rights movement, franchise movement, establishing parliament movement, and abolishing slavery.

What are the characteristics of modern social movements in Korea?


Modern Korean social movement is democratization movement. Korea was dictatorship as 40 years. So Korean people long for Democracy. Students struggle, sometimes violent, sometimes rational. They demonstrate, fight, resist to government. The key figures of Democracy of Korea are the 'students'.

  1. Your blog is neat. In the topic, example that korean democracy changes was interesting. From dictatorship democracy to the liberal democracy, there were efforts of many people. For example, the 5. 18 democratization movement, current affairs declaration and wall newspaper activities and so on...
    This movement occurs mainly in young students. Unfortunately, a lot of sacrifice has occurred. Through these the democracy movement, we were able to realize the true, freedom democracy.
