Sociology-socialization(Cho Sung-an 조성안)

This week I learned about socialization and social status. There's many different views about socialization and social status.

1. Socialization

Socialization and social control contribute to social cohesion and integration. 

 Spencer said that economy does, Marx said government. And Durkheim mentioned about culture. 

 Some bias like "Pink color usually associated girs." is result of socialization. 

And for another example of socialization by culture, fairy tales like snow white is a way to making gender roles. Princess usually calm, and not agressive. So she waits to be rescued. And prince rescues her. It looks like happy ending in surface. But in the other side of this, it's attempting to determine gender roles.

2. Social status

 There's two kinds of social status in big context. One is determined at birth. And other is achieved by doing something. Ascribed status and achieved status.

 People have both of these status. So sometimes, its role makes people's behavior decision hard. We call this role conflict and strain.

For example there's a woman worker. And she has children. She has to work for her children by being paid. But also as a mother, her children need to spend time with her. So she and her children will have hard time. But there's some solution. Her husband can work too. So if she wants to quit work, then her husband work for her and his childern. But if she doesn't want to quit, then he can quit, or adjust working time to be with children.
