What is sociology? (6) - Lim JI Hyun(임지현)

  In this week, our class learned about 'government'. we talked about government, policy, democracy, etc.. The subject was so interesting and I am usually interested in this subject in sociology. So, this class was very fun and I could know new things about government. Then, I will write down my opinion about three topics that are related with 'government'.

Topic 1. Is modern democracy really 'the will of the people?'

  I think that modern democracy is really the will of the people. Because we can elect president by voting thanks to modern democracy. It is one way that we can express our opinions. If modern democracy isn't exist, we can't reflect our opinions in national policy. Also, we will suffer because of despotic government. It will be compulsory and strong. For example, Gwangju(in Korea) citizens experienced despotic government. So, they started Gwangju Democratization Movement and acquire sovereign power. In other words,  it is real happiness that we can say our opinions for our own policy. Our policy must be made by our opinions.

Topic 2. Would you like to have more say in the political decision making?

  I want to say that schools have to apply absolute evaluation as policy of  education. Because relative evaluation leads to competition between students. Therefore, students become selfish and get a many stress. In contrast, absolute evaluation gives all excellent students opportunity that they get high grades. So, if all students  study hard, they can get high grades together. As a result, if schools apply absolute evaluation, students don't have to compete. Therefore, students can love their friends and be comfortable.

Topic 3. How would you like the government of the future to look and work?

  I would like that the government of the future works to reflect our opinions. And I want that government works to make our country more comfortable and safe. Therefore, government have to try to reduce crime and make stronger law that will be applied to offenders. Also, government must make many cultural facilities that we can enjoy our spare time and make welfare policy, econimic policy,etc....that can make our lives more comfortable.
