This week, I learned Gender Stratification. Before I learned it, I thought that it is differnet between girls and boys. I think Gender is interesting thing in sociology. As we are girls or boys, we hear thing is different. The girl hears that kind, queit and cute. but the boy hears that loud, active and handsome. Let's know about why do that.
Gender stratification is that situation where members of one gender are advantaged on the baisis of their sexual identities. In socity, males are more advantaged creceive more power and resouces than women, sexual minorities (gays, lesbians etc) are usually even more disadvantaged.

Functional theory
Functional theories build on sociobiological ones, arguing that labor divison is efficient, and women are better suited for child bearing, rasing and household tasks, all which flow from the fact that women bore children, not men
--> I don't agree this theories. cause men can do child bearing, rasing. As time goes by, men and women change the labor divison.
conflict theory
Conflict theory focuses power and conflict notes that women are discriminated against because men hold a coercive edge (physical strength)
a) The political arena (decision making)
b) economic arena (contril over wealth)
c) culture and media ( men create culture with symbols that justify and reinfore their domination)

Most famous historical characters - we learn about are male.
In christianity, God is usually identified as a male. - most priest/clergy position are restricted to males, In islam proplet Mohammed is male.
Gender Roles
Gender role is a set of social and behavioral norms that are generally considered appropriate for either a man or a woman in a social or interpersonal relationship.
Traditonal - male -> worker, father leader ... and so on
- famale -> house keeper, follower, mother....
Sex vs Gender
Sex (like race) is a perceived biological category.
gender (like ethnicity) is a social category, of which famale and male are most common.
Gender identitiy is the self - identification as woman, man or other.

What other gendered cultural symbols can we think of?
I think the languge in korea. It is 아줌마 (ajumma). I think that it is very noticeable thing in korea languge. Ajumma is sensitive languge. I mean that it is used by women who is merried. But sometimes is used by the middle age women who is not merried or child's mother. When they hear Ajumma, they are so sad. (they think it is right but it is so sad.)
My thinking
I think Gender stratification is very intersing thing. My intersting thing is differnt berween sex and gender. I thing that they are same thing. When I learned the Gender stratification, I feel that we try to equal the men and women. (I don't know it is right that the women and men equal korea persentage in preze.... )
