1. summarization of the materials by my own
words
Sociology is a
discipline that studies anything that is related with human’s social lives. Sociologists
observe social phenomenon and criticaly analysis to understand about the society. Also they do
not study society only by being cooped up in their small rooms. Instead they study
by participating in the society. The history of sociology was started by
various scholars. The scholars were influenced by the historical issues: like
the French Enlightenment. One of the scholars, Comte thought the study of society should
be done in a scientific way. And by his infulence Sociology in the early days had a strong character
of science. Later there were made two contrast between the side that think
sociology more scientific and the side that think sociology to be separate from
science. This lead to the contrast between Quantitative vs Qualitative
sociology. Sociologists today are studying about various topics of society.
2. The new and unusual terms I learned
Before I read the
material I did not know what sociology really is, and thought vaguely that
there must be a certain definition of it. But after reading the materials I
found out that there is no certain definition about sociology. It is a complicating
and shocking but exiting fact.
3.
I think in
studying sociology there should be a finality that can be achieved. Something
that can be used to solve problems humans have. If there is no such finality
the study will be, although useful in the disciple, not useful for the society’s
goods. So paying more attention in having finality will shorten the way to achieving solutions for the society. Society can
be studied without the consideration of social benefits, and even without the
consideration the studies might give solutions to social problems. But if there
is finality sociology might be more practical.
I read well your outline and content to the problem of "Invitation to sociology." The most impressive was in your summary is intended cited the words of scholars. According to words of the scholars comte, Social studies can be accessed in scientific aspect, results try reasoning, social and science seems to be organically combined. In the end, reading your blog, Sociology, not simple, I noticed that this is complex and subtle.
