★ what functions religion may have?

  In this week class, our teammate had a discussion about religion functions. We thought that religion may have many functions, so we found religion functions. First, religion gives people positive feelings(ex. spiritual comfort, peace, happiness....). People can get these positive feelings by believing god or religion. So, More people are going to churches or temples for these positive feelings. Second, religion is very helpful to personal relationship or communication. Because if some people go religious organization(ex. church, temple...), they can meet many people who have same religion and thought. So they can easily agree each others and become intimate. As a result, Leading the life of religion is useful for our life. And sometimes it can be very important.



★ Can you think of other examples in how religion can be used to control people?

  In second topic, our teammate thought about 'How religion can be used to control people?'. It was very hard at first to find examples that can show about the second topic. After we thought about examples, we found two examples. The first example is that we go church every sunday. Religion is so powerful in our life that religion can be used to control us to go church every sunday. If religion is not powerful in our life, we don't go church every sunday morning because we are so tired and we want to rest on weekend. And the second example is that we do something good. We think that paradise exists, so we do something good. we can say that thinking paradise exists is also affected by religion. Consequentially, religion can be used to control people very much in people life. So, I insist that religion is so powerful and influential in our life.
