What is sociology? 2 (조규현 Cho Gyuhyun)

 This week, I learned sociology compared with other disciplines like economics, politics, anthropology, psychology and history. these are similar with sociology, but different. Anthropology compare with sociology, anthropology studies just the origin human social and behavior. But sociology studies not only origin, but whole society past and future. And sociology compared with psychology, psychology focuses on individual, but sociology focuses on society. For this class I thought sociology is very wide. I feel many disciplines are in this study. So I thought I could have a pride of sociology.
 I learned history of sociology also with many sociologist, Comte, Spencer, Karl Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Mead. Comte is called the father of sociology. He propose sociology to be a science to study society with scientific method. Spencer,an evolutionist, looks society is organism. Karl Marx is very important person in sociology. He saw society as a laborer conflict with a capitalist. Marx theorize Communism for overcome this confusion society. Durkheim emphasize common culture. He assert common culture make society one. I saw in this class that many sociologist are influential to today'society. And they are very important. Their study affect wide people, and it could be a good method of social integration. Today's Korean society is cracked very much with age, supporting party, birth region and so on. In this phenomenon, sociology and sociologist are very important, I think in this class.

 This week, Two questions are asked.
One is "What is more important -our genes or our environment?"
 I think in physical aspect, genes are more influential. We can see the black. their body is very solid even if they didn't any exercise. They are just born with good physical. It can't be with Korean. Korean gene of physical is bad I think. Korean leg is short, head is big, muscle is small. But the black I think, they are just good gene of physical. Their physical balance is very good without any effort. And the blacks are good at musical aspect either. The black invent R&B, hiphop, jazz and so on. Their music have soul a lot. So I thought gene have a many influence in many things.

The other question is "Can you think of examples of charismatic, traditional and rational-legal leaders or governments in the history of Korea?"
 I think president Lee Myungbak was a charismatic leader of Korea. When he seize power, the world have financial crisis in 2008. The whole world's economy was depressed. But Korean economy grow up differ other country. And his security policy could be estimated high. When he was president, he attract the US armed forces in Jeju to enhance Korea national defense. And his policy of North Korea makes South Korea held a dominant position of the relationship of two nations. So I think president Lee was a good and charismatic leader of Korea.
