What is sociology? (2) - 신명주 Myeong-Ju Shin

MAIN TOPIC : WHAT IS SOCIOLOGY?? (2)

Name : Myeong-Ju Shin

Date : March 9~10th , 2015

I took a second "Invitation to Sociology" lecture when Monday and Tuesday of this week. Monday, We learned comparison between sociology and another study. This is very interesting to me because I didn't think that far. We compared many study with sociology : economics, political science, anthropology, psychology, history, social work. I especially interested in comparison sociology and psychology. Sociology is deal with big number whereas psychology is deal with single or individual. Because I have been interested in psychology of people.
And We are questioned "What is more important our genes or our environment?" and "Can you think of examples of  charismatic, traditional and rational-legal leaders of governments in the history of Asia?"

Topic 1 : What is more important ourgenes or our environment?

I think more important environment than genes.
First reason, our genes so selfish, so evolution themselves. But environment do not evolution themselves quickly. Second reason, we live in environment, and environment more important descendant of us. Last reason, environment influences to our genes but genes don't.
Due to this reasons I think more important environment than genes.

Topic 2 : Can you think of examples of charismatic, traditional and rational-legal leaders of governments in the history of Aisa?

I think the most charismatic leader of Korea is king Se-jong the Great. He is the fourth king of the Jo-sun Dynasty. King Se-jong ruled from 1418 until his death in 1450 was one of the most famous rulers in Korean history, and one of only two th have the title "the Great".
He's greatest achievement was the creation of the Korean alphabet, Han-gul. This alphabet is scientific, so enabled literacy to become more available to the general population, who could not be expected to master the classical Chinese language that was the official written language of Korea at the time.
Thanks to he's charismatic leadership Koreans express themselves opinion more easily. Also,  Han-gul help break down illiteracy.
For these reasons, I think the most charismatic leader of Korea is King Se-jong the Great. If you want to know more about a king Se-jong the Great's leadership, should be connected with this site.(https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=tViA-pCPjGYC&pg=PA7&dq=king+sejong+leadership&hl=ko&sa=X&ei=N5QDVZP8LKLKmwWIooKQDg&ved=0CBsQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=king%20sejong%20leadership&f=false)

I learned history of sociology also with many sociologist, Comte, Spencer, Karl Marx, Durkheim, Weber and so on. Actually, I have a difficulty to understand about this lecture with english. But I have studied Karl Marx and Weber when I went high school. So I could more concentration explanation about them. Another sociologist attract concern. Therefore I look forward to next lecture!!:)

  1. Genes have evolved to fit the environment. I think so too. Small amount of objects that change their genes in order to survive in changing environment only survived. And as they will breeding, genes that changed will be common genes soon.
So I think that environment is above the genes.
