What is Sociology? (조규현 Cho Gyuhyun)

First class, What is Sociology?


 When I was in high school, I want to study Sociology in university. So I expect this first time, and it was very excited for me. One of this lecture topic was the many concepts of Sociology that study Society, Social relations, Human behavior, Social life and so on. It can't define the one thing. So these many definitions would deal with operationalization to these concepts may measurable. By the operationalization, Sociology can be a science. And I learned many useful tools like Wikipedia, Google books, Google fight and so on to find non-operationaliation concepts. The other topic was Sociological imagination. For it, we discuss two topics.

First topic.
Why does fashion change?
I think fashion is changed by people's individuality. When one fashion begin, many people follow it. If the public follow one fashion, some people maybe disgusted it. So they would try new fashions. And they would feel they stay ahead of others. For looking them, others want hoping their own pride to fashion, it makes the fashion change I think.

Second topic.
Why is the Starcraft so popular in Korea?
I think it is because of Korean ethnicity. Korean have a lot of community spirit, and Korean like having a battle of wits. Seeing Korean cheering culture, we can know Korean have community spirit a lot easy. And seeing hacker of Korean and seeing sports like baduk, the battle of wits, Korean are good at them. For these Korean, Starcraft cannot be a popular game. Starcraft ask many wits and team play. For these reason, Starcraft is popular in Korea, I think.
